At SKM Hospital in Nepal, our dedicated team specializes in the comprehensive treatment of cleft lip and palate—a congenital condition that affects the upper lip and the roof of the mouth. Early intervention through surgical repair not only improves appearance but also critically enhances the patient’s ability to feed, speak, and develop socially. Our multidisciplinary approach combines surgical expertise with ongoing rehabilitation, ensuring that each patient receives tailored care that supports both functional and aesthetic recovery.
Since the project’s inception, oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) has been another focus. A large number of highly qualified visiting surgeons have performed several thousand cleft lip and palate operations since 1998, contributing significantly to the hospital’s excellent reputation. This has always involved the training of local physicians.
Continuous training, in the spirit of “helping people help themselves,” is always a top priority. This success was particularly evident this year, as Dr. Manohar Yadav and his Nepalese colleagues independently operated on 30 patients with excellent results, even without assistance from Germany.
By consistently emphasizing skill development, patient-centered care, and international collaboration, SKM Hospital remains at the forefront of cleft lip and palate surgery, making a lasting difference in the lives of children and families throughout Nepal
