HONORING A LEGACY OF COMPASSION
Founded in 1993 by Sujata Koirala—daughter of the esteemed Mrs. Koirala—the Sushma Koirala Memorial Trust (SKMT) was born out of a heartfelt desire to continue a legacy of social service. Guided by the inspiring vision of the late Sushma Koirala—a woman whose drive to reform Nepalese society ignited hope and change—Sujata dedicated herself to advancing community action, advocacy, human settlement, planning, and organizational development. Over the decades, our trust has consistently worked to empower those burdened by economic and social hardships, particularly in Nepal’s rural communities.
At SKMT, our journey is defined by deep-rooted commitment. From implementing national and local initiatives to launching projects that directly serve the downtrodden, oppressed, destitute, and underprivileged, our work is fueled by a belief that every individual deserves a chance to rise above adversity. We strive to ensure that vulnerable communities not only receive support but also gain the tools and knowledge needed to build a brighter, self-reliant future.
Since its establishment, SKMT has implemented numerous national, district and local level activities, and projects to achieve its social service commitment to the poor and the disadvantaged.

At the heart of SKMT is a clear vision: to uplift the socioeconomic status of those living in poverty, especially women, ethnic minorities, children, and persons with disabilities in our targeted areas. We envision communities where every individual can access quality health care, education, environmental resources, sanitation, and opportunities for structural development. Through strong partnerships and community-driven initiatives, we are dedicated to transforming challenges into stepping stones for sustainable progress.
